When it came time to begin the learning for my free inquiry project, I struggled motivating myself to get it done. It took some time and I think I finally realize that while I thought I wanted to learn about “what makes spoken such an effective delivery technique,” I am much more interested in the art form itself. What I truly want to gain from this process is a greater insight into poetry. I want to attend poetry readings and hear what individuals think needs to be heard, I want to understand something that another person can only express through poetry, I want to see what I can create throughout this process.
What makes spoken word such an effective delivery technique? Quite honestly, I believe the answer will drastically change depending on who you ask. For me, spoken word draws me in; writers have an indescribable power to make me hear whatever they have to say when it is in the spoken word format. I cannot explain, nor do I think I want to. I enjoy the mystery of it all far too much to pick it apart.
